The airport does not provide METAR weather reports. The nearest airport with such reports is Kilimanjaro International Airport, about 199 km away. Ithumba Airport falls under the Nairobi Flight Information Region (FIR).

It operates in the Africa/Nairobi time zone, which is three hours ahead of UTC. In this area, the sun typically rises at around 06:27 and sets at about 18:30. Times may vary slightly throughout the year, but there is no daylight saving time.

Ithumba Airstrip is located in Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest and oldest national parks in Kenya. Tsavo National Park is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West by a railway line and the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Tsavo East is found in the southeastern part of the country, close to the town of Voi in Taita Taveta County. The Tsavo River flows through the park, giving the park its name.

The landscape in Tsavo East is semi-arid with open Savannah grasslands and scattered bushes. The park is home to many species of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and over 500 species of birds.

The Ithumba area in particular is well-known for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s elephant rehabilitation program, where orphaned elephants are raised and later released into the wild.

Tsavo East National Park can be reached by road, rail, or air. The park has several airstrips, including Voi, Aruba, Satao, Sala, Ithumba, Sangayaya, Mopeo, Bachuma, and Cattar. There are no scheduled commercial flights to these airstrips.

However, visitors can book charter flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Wilson Airport in Nairobi, or Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Using Ithumba Airstrip provides quick access to the park’s northern region and offers a convenient option for tourists who want to reduce travel time and enjoy more time exploring the park’s attractions.
