Voi Gate is one of the main entry points to Tsavo East National Park, located in the southern section of the park near the Kenya Wildlife Service Centre. It is among the few gates in Tsavo East where visitors can pay park entrance fees using a credit card. The payment system is strictly non-cash, making it convenient for travelers who prefer cashless transactions.
The gate is situated north of Voi town and is easy to access by both road and air. If traveling by air, the nearest landing point is Ikanga Airstrip, which is just a short drive away. By road, visitors can reach Voi Gate from Mombasa or Nairobi along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway (A109). The drive from Mombasa takes about 3-4 hours, while from Nairobi it takes about 5-6 hours.
From Voi Gate, visitors can enter the park and enjoy a variety of wildlife experiences. Tsavo East National Park is the largest park in Kenya and is often called the “Theater of the Wild” because of its wide range of animals and open landscapes. One of the most famous sights is the red-dust elephants, which are often seen rolling in the reddish soil, spraying themselves with dust, or splashing in waterholes.
Park gates, including Voi Gate, open daily at 6:30 AM and close at 7:00 PM. There is no early check-in or late check-out, so visitors should plan their arrival and departure within these hours.
Voi Gate is also a good starting point for game drives, as it offers access to some of the park’s best wildlife viewing areas. Tourists often spot elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and a variety of bird species shortly after entering.
