Sala Gate is one of the main entry and exit points to Tsavo East National Park. It is located in the northeastern part of the park, near the southern section of the Galana River. The gate is well developed, with facilities such as toilets and a restaurant for visitors. Its location and accessibility make it one of the most used entry points to the park.
Sala Gate can be reached via the Tsavo–Malindi road, and the drive from Malindi takes about 1 to 2 hours. For those traveling by air, there is an airstrip near the gate, making it easy to access for visitors coming from other parts of Kenya.
At Sala Gate, visitors pay their park entrance fees, but only by credit card as cash payments are not accepted. All gates to Tsavo National Park open daily at 6:30 AM and close at 7:00 PM, with no early check-in or check-out allowed.
Tsavo East National Park, like its twin Tsavo West, is located in southern Kenya along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway (A109). It is the largest national park in Kenya and is often called the “Theater of the Wild” because of the large number of animals that live there.
One of the park’s most famous attractions is the red dust elephants, which are often seen rolling in the soil, splashing in the water, and playing in the riverbanks.

- Buchuma Gate – Located in the southeastern section of the park, popular with visitors traveling from Mombasa.
Sala Gate offers a convenient and well-equipped starting point for exploring Tsavo East, especially for travelers coming from the Kenyan coast.
