Cultural Tours in Tsavo East National Park & Wildlife Conservation

Cultural tours in Tsavo East National Park give you a chance to meet these communities, learn about their traditions, and see their way of life. By visiting and supporting these cultural experiences, you also contribute to conservation. When local people have income from tourism, they are less likely to return to hunting or wildlife trade.

Many locals earn a living through cultural performances, crafts, and guided cultural visits. You are encouraged to support them by buying local products or making donations. Getting involved helps preserve both wildlife and cultural heritage for future generations.

The Tsavo Conservation Area has one of the largest elephant populations in the region, and possibly in the entire continent. About 40 percent of Kenya’s elephants live here. It is also home to over 18 percent of the rare and endangered black rhinos, most of which are found in the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary inside Tsavo National Park.

The elephant population in Tsavo has been slowly increasing at a rate of about 4 to 5 percent each year, despite the ongoing threat of poaching. Even though poaching has been made illegal, cases of illegal wildlife trade still occur.

The worst year in recent history was 2011. The area also shelters other rare animals such as the critically endangered Hirola and the endangered Grevy’s zebra. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect these species.

The Tsavo Conservation Area is one of the most visited wildlife destinations in Kenya. The majority of visitors come to Tsavo East National Park, Tsavo West National Park, and Amboseli National Park.

Kenya is a country rich in culture, with many different tribal groups spread across the land. In Tsavo, several tribal communities live around the park. Some of them were displaced when the park was officially gazetted, while others were integrated into nearby communities after years of hunting and wildlife trade.
