Detailed 7-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary
Day 1: From Nairobi to Tsavo West National Park
Your safari guide will pick you up in Nairobi and drive you to Tsavo West National Park, your first destination. On arrival, enjoy some wildlife sightings as you head to your lodge for check-in and lunch.
In the afternoon, go for your first game drive in the park, exploring its unique landscapes and spotting different animals. Dinner and overnight at the safari lodge.
Day 2: Explore Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo West is known for its rugged terrain and rich wildlife. Today’s game drive will include visits to Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, Shetani Lava Flow, the caves, and Poacher’s Lookout. Look out for dust-red elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, cheetahs, leopards, kudu, wild dogs, dik-diks, and many bird species. At Mzima Springs, you may see hippos and crocodiles in clear waters. Overnight at the safari lodge.
Day 3: From Tsavo West to Lake Nakuru National Park
After an early breakfast, drive out of Tsavo West and head to Lake Nakuru National Park. Stop in Nairobi for lunch before continuing your scenic journey, with a stop at the Rift Valley viewpoint. Arrive in Lake Nakuru in the evening, check in to your lodge, and relax. Overnight in the park.
Day 4: Explore Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru is famous for its flamingos and rich birdlife. Spend the day exploring the park, watching birds along the lake and spotting animals such as buffalos, giraffes, zebras, baboons, monkeys, waterbucks, antelopes, hyenas, and lions. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: From Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve
Leave Lake Nakuru after breakfast and drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most visited park. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon for lunch, then go on an evening game drive to start your Maasai Mara experience. Overnight at the safari lodge.
Day 6: Explore Masai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy a full day of game drives in Masai Mara, exploring different areas to increase your chances of seeing wildlife such as lions, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, rhinos, elephants, leopards, and hyenas.
If visiting during the wildebeest migration (July–August), head to the Mara River to witness the event. You will also visit a Maasai community before returning to your lodge for overnight.
Day 7: From Maasai Mara to Nairobi
You may choose an optional early morning hot air balloon safari over the plains. After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi. Your guide will drop you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight.
