Detailed 6-Day Tsavo & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park
Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Mombasa for your 6-day safari. Drive to the wide open plains of Tsavo East National Park. On arrival, enjoy a game drive as you head to your lodge for check-in and lunch.
In the afternoon, explore the park, passing across the Yatta Plateau, and spot wildlife as they prepare to settle for the night. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Explore Tsavo East National Park
Spend the day exploring the open Savannah of Kenya’s largest park. Look out for red-dusted elephants, buffalos, lions, gerenuks, kudus, giraffes, hippos, zebras, and many bird species.
Visit the Tsavo River and the blue waters of the Galana River for birdwatching. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Tsavo West National Park
After an early breakfast, check out and drive south to Tsavo West National Park. Take a mid-morning game drive on arrival to see lions, giraffes, mongooses, zebras, dik-diks, buffalos, elephants, hyrax, leopards, rhinos, and lesser kudus.
Check in at your lodge for lunch and some relaxation, enjoying the views of the savannah. Later, head out to visit Mzima Springs for underwater viewing of fish and hippos. If time allows, explore sites like Chaimu Crater, Shetani Lava Flow, and nearby caves. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Tsavo to Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, visit the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary to see endangered black rhinos, completing your Big Five sightings. Exit Tsavo West and drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous safari destination. On arrival, check in at your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
You can also choose to take a domestic flight from Tsavo West to Masai Mara.
Day 5: Explore Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend the day on game drives in Masai Mara. Look out for many animal and bird species, and visit the Mara River for a chance to see the great wildebeest migration if visiting during the season. You may also visit a Maasai village before returning to the lodge for overnight.
Day 6: Depart for Nairobi
Take an early morning game drive or choose an optional hot air balloon safari over the Mara plains. After breakfast, drive to Nairobi, where your guide will drop you at the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your safari.
