Crocodile Point Tsavo East – Wildlife Viewing & Visitor Guide

The Crocodile Point of the East is a well-known viewpoint along the banks of the Galana River inside Tsavo East National Park. It is one of the few places in the park where visitors are allowed to step out of their vehicles.

From here, you have a good chance of spotting large Nile crocodiles sunbathing on the riverbanks or swimming in the water. The area also offers views of the Yatta Plateau, Lugard Falls, and other wildlife.

Crocodile Point is located on the southern banks of the Galana River, just downstream from Lugard Falls. The river attracts many animals, so while you are here, you might also see hippos, elephants, waterbucks, and different bird species. It is a peaceful spot where visitors can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings before continuing their game drive.

You can spend time watching crocodiles from the viewpoint or take a wildlife drive in the surrounding area. Along the river’s banks, there are several spots with clear views of the Yatta Plateau and the flowing waters of the Galana River. Game drives in this area may also reward you with sightings of giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes.

Crocodile Point can be visited throughout the year. The dry season (June to October and January to February) makes it easier to access the area as roads are dry and wildlife is easier to spot. The rainy season (March to June and November) offers greener scenery but can make some roads muddy and slippery.

It is situated within Tsavo East National Park, a short distance downstream from Lugard Falls on the southern side of the Galana River.

You can reach Crocodile Point by air or road. A nearby airstrip serves small charter flights, but you may need a ranger or guide to help you get to the viewpoint.

By road, it takes about one hour to drive from Manyani Gate, passing through red, dusty roads with good chances of spotting wildlife along the way.
